Dong Nai partners with Japan’s Kobe city to foster green growth
VOV.VN - The People’s Committee of Dong Nai province held a forum on November 20 to enhance bilateral cooperation in promoting green growth between the locality and Japan’s Kobe city.
The event brought together experts who shared insights on key topics such as low-carbon urban development in Kobe, construction-waste recycling technologies, water treatment innovations in Vietnam, carbon-reduction strategies for industrial parks, and energy efficiency solutions.
Yoji Koizumi, Director of the Promotion Council for the “FutureCity” Initiative (PCFCI) under the Kobe’s Urban Planning and Housing Bureau, said the Japanese city is rolling out a series of key measures to combat global warming. These include promoting decarbonised lifestyles, expanding hydrogen energy use, encouraging electric vehicles, increasing renewable-energy adoption, fostering industrial decarbonization, and enhancing carbon dioxide (CO₂) absorption and storage.
Speaking at the forum, Ho Van Ha, Vice Chairman of the Dong Nai People’s Committee, emphasised the province’s commitment in recent years to green and sustainable development. Dong Nai is prioritising the transition of existing industrial parks and the development of new ones into ecological, green, and high-tech industrial zones.
Ha noted that the province places particular importance on cooperation with Kobe, a city with extensive experience in industrial-infrastructure development and similar development characteristics.
In 2024, Dong Nai and Kobe signed a memorandum of understanding to further green-growth cooperation. Under this agreement, both sides will explore opportunities to convert industrial parks into sustainable ecological models, facilitate forums for government agencies, experts, and businesses to exchange ideas, and provide technical, financial, and legal support to businesses involved in green transformation projects.
Ha stressed that the forum offered an excellent opportunity for infrastructure developers and Japanese investors to collaborate on plans for industrial symbiosis and cleaner production. This collaboration aims to drive sustainable growth through digital transformation, green innovation, improved efficiency, emission reduction, and progress toward a green and circular economy.
According to Dong Nai’s industrial-park development plan for 2021–2030, with a vision to 2050, the province has planned 81 industrial parks, one high-tech park, and one economic zone. The locality has so far attracted investment from 45 countries and territories, totaling more than 2,700 projects including over 1,900 foreign-invested and 835 domestic projects.
