PM Chinh meets leaders of New Zealand, Mongolia, Barbados at WEF Tianjin
VOV.VN - Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on June 27 had bilateral meetings with the Prime Ministers of New Zealand, Mongolia and Barbados on the sidelines of the 14th meeting of the New Champions of the World Economic Forum, known as the Summer Davos Forum, in Tianjin, China.
Meeting with NZ Prime Minister Chris Hipkins, the two PMs noted with satisfaction the positive development of the two countries’ relations over recent years through regular visit exchanges at all levels. Bilateral trade has maintained rapid growth, reaching nearly US$1.3 billion last year in the context of difficulties and challenges.
They agreed to step up promotion activities and open up markets for each other’s goods, including agricultural products, aiming to raise their two-way trade turnover to US$2 billion in 2024.
Vietnam values and wishes to promote the strategic partnership with New Zealand, said Chinh.
He affirmed that the Vietnamese Government will create favourable conditions and encourage New Zealand businesses to invest in Vietnam in the fields where New Zealand has strengths and Vietnam has great needs, such as education-training, processing and manufacturing technology, agriculture, forestry, fisheries, and construction.
He also proposed that New Zealand support Vietnamese businesses to come and invest in its territory.
Hipkins for his part echoed Chinh’s proposals, saying the two countries should foster bilateral cooperation, especially in economy and trade, and at the same time enhance coordination at multilateral forums.
He voiced New Zealand’s support for ASEAN’s central role in the regional architecture.
The two leaders emphasized the importance of maintaining and promoting peace, security, stability, safety, and freedom of navigation and overflight in the East Sea, as well as settling disputes by peaceful means, in accordance with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
Meeting with Mongolian Prime Minister Oyun-Erdene Luvsannamsrai, PM Pham Minh Chinh affirmed Vietnam’s consistent policy of consolidating and strengthening the good traditional friendship between Vietnam and Mongolia. He suggested that the two sides promote the exchange of delegations at both central and local levels, and to as to enhance mutual understanding and trust.
Given regional and global complications, Vietnam stands ready to support Mongolia to expanding its relations with ASEAN for peace and prosperity in the region and the world at large, said Chinh.
Luvsannamsrai for his part told Chinh that Mongolia wishes to further expand cooperation with Vietnam, especially in the fields of railway and aviation transportation, tourism and people-to-people exchanges. He proposed that the two sides should bring into full play the role of the Mongolia-Vietnam Intergovernmental Committee as well as other cooperation mechanisms.
The two PMs discussed a number of regional and international issues of mutual concern, underlining the need to uphold the role of multilateralism and comply with international law.
The same day, PM Pham Minh Chinh met with Barbados PM Mia Mottley who spoke highly of Vietnam’s socio-economic development achievements, especially its success in controlling COVID-19.
Mottley expressed her hope that the two sides would continue to create conditions and frameworks for enhancing bilateral cooperation in trade, investment and tourism, while maintaining close coordination and mutual support at international organizations and multilateral forums, especially at the United Nations.
Barbados is ready to act as a bridge for Vietnam to strengthen ties with Caribbean countries, she assured Chinh.
Chinh for his part suggested that the two sides work closely together to soon sign cooperation documents, including one on visa exemption for diplomatic and official passport holders, to create a legal corridor for economic, trade and investment cooperation.
