PM appreciates WTO assistance to Vietnam’s international economic integration
VOV.VN - Vietnam always appreciates the World Trade Organisation’s cooperation and assistance to the country’s international economic integration, said Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
Meeting WTO Director General Okonjo-Iweala in Davos on January 17, Chinh expressed concern about rising trade protectionism and new standards related to climate change. He outlined difficulties faced by developing economies due to these barriers, and requested that the WTO discuss with developed countries to provide technical assistance to developing countries in this field.
Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala hailed Vietnam as a success story in socio-economic development, while appreciating the WTO’s cooperation with Vietnam.
She briefed the Vietnamese PM on a recent working session between a group of experts from the European Commission and the WTO to examine developing countries’ recommendations, and said the WTO has called for necessary technical assistance to developing economies.
She said a WTO Ministerial Conference on food safety and sanitary and phytosanitary measures would be held in late February 2024, and she expected that Vietnam would send delegates to the conference.
