Phnom Penh ceremony marks Vietnam’s 80th National Day
VOV.VN - The Embassy of Vietnam in Cambodia solemnly held a ceremony in Phnom Penh on the evening of August 21 to mark the 80th anniversary of Vietnam’s National Day (September 2, 1945 – 2025).

The event was attended by President of the Cambodian Senate Samdech Techo Hun Sen and many senior Cambodian leaders.
Speaking at the function, Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Minh Vu reviewed Vietnam’s proud 80-year journey since gaining independence on September 2, 1945. He highlighted the country’s resilience through hardships, its achievements in national development and international integration, and its preparations to enter a new era of prosperity and sustainability.
The Ambassador emphasised the strong and growing Vietnam–Cambodia relationship, rooted in shared history and solidarity, and guided by the motto of “good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and long-term sustainability.”
He affirmed that the presence of Senate President Hun Sen at the ceremony demonstrated the deep bond and special friendship between the two countries. Over the past few months, he said, Hun Sen has paid multiple visits to Vietnam and is expected to attend the upcoming National Day celebration in Hanoi.

In his remarks, Senate President Hun Sen extended congratulations to the Vietnamese Party, State, and people, stating September 2, 1945, was not only a historic turning point for Vietnam, but also a source of inspiration for Southeast Asian countries, including Cambodia, in their own struggles for independence. He reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to its comprehensive and close-knit relationship with Vietnam, based on mutual respect and support.
The Cambodian leader expressed deep gratitude for Vietnam’s significant assistance in helping Cambodia overthrow the genocidal regime, prevent its return, and rebuild the country. He stressed that this historical truth cannot be distorted by any hostile forces.
The Vietnam–Cambodia relationship is built on mutual respect and support, bringing practical benefits to both countries and their peoples, while also making an important contribution to maintaining peace, stability, sustainable development, and prosperity in the region, he said.
The ceremony underscored the enduring and ever-strengthening friendship and cooperation between the two neighbouring countries.
