Party leader welcomes Ugandan President in Hanoi
VOV.VN - Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong on November 24 received Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni who is in Hanoi for an official visit to Vietnam at the invitation of President Nguyen Xuan Phuc.
Trong congratulated Uganda’s achievements in national construction and development, and expressed his belief that, under the leadership of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and his National Resistance Movement (NRM), Uganda would continue to maintain a peaceful and stable environment for prosperous development.
He briefed his guest on Vietnam’s foreign policy, and affirmed Vietnam promotes relations with fraternal African countries in general, Uganda in particular, that experienced the same struggle against colonialism and for national liberation in the past and are now sharing common interests in national development.
The Party leader highly valued the good results of the talks between the two countries’ presidents and the signing of a number of the cooperation documents following the talks, affirming both Vietnam and Uganda have more room to strengthen bilateral cooperation, especially in the fields of economy, agriculture and culture.
He underscored the need for the two countries to coordinate closely at international forums, while emphasizing the importance of the political will and policy line of the leadership of the two countries in promoting bilateral relations.
The Ugandan president, for his part, informed his host on the situation in Uganda and Africa, emphasizing that Ugandans have long supported the struggle of the Vietnamese people. He expressed his admiration for the Communist Party of Vietnam’s leadership role, and expected to further promote relations between the two parties and two countries.
The same day, the Ugandan President met with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
