Party chief receives Cuban Communist Party special envoy
VOV.VN - Party General Secretary To Lam on February 2 received Cuban Communist Party special envoy, Politburo member and Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, who is paying an official visit to Vietnam from February 1-3.
The Party leader welcomed the visit, which comes shortly after the successful conclusion of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, and said it reflects the special solidarity and steadfast friendship between the two Parties, States and peoples.
Briefing the Cuban envoy on the outcomes of the 14th Party Congress, the leader said Vietnam has mapped out its strategic development orientation toward 2030 with a vision to 2045, stressing that relations with traditional friends, especially Cuba, remain a top priority in Vietnam’s foreign policy.
The Party chief reaffirmed Vietnam’s consistent solidarity and support for Cuba, sharing difficulties the country is facing due to the impact of unilateral blockade and natural disasters, and reiterated Vietnam’s call for the lifting of the blockade against Cuba.
For his part, Bruno Rodríguez conveyed congratulations from Cuba’s top leaders on the successful organisation of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the 96th anniversary of the Party’s founding. He praised Vietnam’s major achievements over nearly four decades of renewal, saying the success of Vietnam is also the success of Cuba.
The two sides agreed to further strengthen high-level exchanges and maintain cooperation mechanisms for theoretical exchanges and experience-sharing in Party building, cadre training and state governance, viewing these as a key political foundation for deepening strategic trust.
On economic cooperation, the Party leader said stronger and more substantive cooperation is needed to match the excellent political ties, noting that Vietnam will continue implementing rice production cooperation projects to help Cuba move toward greater food self-sufficiency, while encouraging Vietnamese enterprises to invest in Cuba.
Rodríguez affirmed Cuba gives high priority to expanding cooperation with Vietnam in areas such as solar energy, consumer goods manufacturing, tourism and pharmaceuticals, and will continue close coordination with Vietnam at multilateral forums.
On this occasion, the top Vietnamese leader asked Rodríguez to convey his best regards to revolutionary leader Raul Castro, First Secretary and President Miguel Díaz-Canel, and other senior Cuban leaders.
