VOV.VN - General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President of Vietnam To Lam and his spouse on October 6 hosted a welcoming ceremony for Panamanian President José Raúl Mulino and his spouse, who are paying a four-day official visit to Vietnam from October 5 to 8.
The ceremony was held at the National Assembly House in Hanoi, marking the formal start of the Panamanian President’s official programme in Viet Nam.
As welcoming music filled the venue, General Secretary and President To Lam and President José Raúl Mulino walked along the red carpet to the dais, where the national anthems of Viet Nam and Panama were played.
The two leaders then reviewed the Guard of Honour of the Vietnam People's Army, and introduced the members of their respective delegations attending the ceremony.
The welcoming ceremony was followed by talks between General Secretary and President To Lam and President José Raúl Mulino, together with members of the two countries’ high-level delegations.
Vietnam and Panama established diplomatic relations on August 28, 1975. Over the past five decades, bilateral friendship and multifaceted cooperation have been strengthened through high-level visits, cooperation agreements and coordination at international forums.
The two countries have maintained steady growth in bilateral trade, with Panama becoming one of Vietnam’s 10 largest trading partners in Latin America. The two sides have also identified potential for cooperation in areas including trade, logistics, maritime transport, finance, agriculture, renewable energy and tourism.
President Mulino’s official visit is expected to give fresh impetus to the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and Panama, while opening up further opportunities for more substantive bilateral ties.
