OECD pledges support for Vietnam’s sustainable development goals
VOV.VN - The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and its member states will work alongside Vietnam towards realising its sustainable development goals closely linked the country’s priorities in emerging fields such as digital transformation and green growth.
OECD Secretary General Mathias Cormann made the commitment at a reception hosted by Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son in Hanoi on October 26.
He said he was impressed by Vietnam’s positive economic outlook in 2023 in the gloomy picture of the global economy. He thanked Vietnam for its close coordination in having successfully organized the OECD - Southeast Asia Ministerial Forum for two consecutive years, opening up new cooperation opportunities. between OECD and Southeast Asia in the near future.
Son for his part said the 2023 forum themed ‘Quality Investment: New Momentum for OECD – Southeast Asia Partnership’ would contribute to strengthening cooperative cooperation, especially investment cooperation, between OECD and Southeast Asia, towards the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the OECD Southeast Asia Regional Programme (SEARP) in 2024.
He emphasized the important significance of implementing a signed memorandum of understanding between Vietnam and OECD, and expected that OECD would continue to support policy recommendations for Vietnam, focusing on areas such as global minimum tax, carbon emission reduction, environmental protection, high technology, semiconductor manufacturing, digital transformation, and artificial intelligence.
The Minister also proposed that OECD support the appointment of a Vietnamese coordinator to work at its headquarters.
The OECD Secretary General was in Hanoi for the second OECD - Southeast Asia Ministerial Forum in 2023.
