NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue begins Laos visit
VOV.VN - A high-raking delegation of the Vietnam National Assembly led by NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue arrived at Wattay airport on May 15, beginning an official three day visit to Laos at the invitation of the Laos National Assembly Chairman Saysomphone Phomvihane.
Hue is being accompanied by leaders of several National Assembly Committees, ministries, agencies and localities that share a border with Laos.
Upon arriving in Laos, Hue attended a groundbreaking ceremony of the Laos - Vietnam Friendship Park project, met the Vietnamese business community in Laos, visited the Vietnamese Embassy and met representatives of the Vietnamese community in Laos.
This is the first official visit to Laos by a leader of Vietnam in the Vietnam - Laos Solidarity and Friendship Year 2022.
Both sides are expected to evaluate the results of the implementation of cooperation agreements between their National Assemblies for the 2017-2022 term, and to seek to sign new cooperation agreements between the two sides.
The Vietnam - Laos relations have developed positively in recent times despite the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The two sides have successfully organized the annual meeting of the two Party Politburos, the 44th session of the Vietnam - Laos Intergovernmental Committee and the launching ceremony of the ‘Vietnam-Laos Solidarity and Friendship Year 2022’.
Two-way trade turnover in the first two months of the year reached US$243.2 million, up 21.9% over the same period in 2021. Vietnam has so far poured US$4.7 billion into 417 projects in Laos, including US$64.3 million worth of three projects in the first two months of 2022.
The two countries have maintained close cooperation in the fields of security - defense, education and training, culture, and the COVID-19 fight. Cooperation between localities, especially localities with a shared border, have been promoted.
