NA Chairman pushes for stronger ties between Vietnam and Laos

VOV.VN - National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue expected that the relationship between the National Assemblies of Vietnam and Laos would become a role model for parliamentary cooperation.

Receiving Lao National Assembly Vice Chairwoman Sounthone Xayachak in Hanoi on July 20, Hue said the two sides should increase visit exchanges in the coming time to share experience in legislation, oversight and decision making.

The National Assembly of Vietnam is ready to share experience and run training courses for deputies of the National Assembly of Laos and its local People’s Councils, Hue told his guest.

He appreciated the results of earlier talks between the two legislative bodies’ deputy heads and affirmed that the National Assembly of Vietnam elevate the relationship between the two legislative bodies on a par with the special relationship between the two countries.

He proposed that the two sides work closely together to solve pending problems so as to soon implement key economic cooperation projects.

For her part, Vice Chairwoman of the Lao National Assembly Sounthone Xayachak spoke highly of Vietnam’s development achievements in recent years, saying despite the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, Vietnam recorded remarkable gains in realizing the dual goals of pandemic prevention and economic recovery.

Laos considers Vietnam’ss achievements as a source of encouragement, great motivation and lessons for it to drive its development path forward, she said.

She expressed her belief that under the clear-sighted leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Vietnam will develop steadily and achieve the goals set out in the 2030-2045 period.

On this occasion, the Vice Chairwoman of the Lao National Assembly thanked Vietnam for its valuable support and assistance in the past and at present, noting Vietnam provided medical supplies to Laos’ COVID-19 fight, built the Lao National Assembly building, trained lawmakers, and sent experts to support Laos in overcoming the COVID-19 crisis.

Vice Chairwoman of the Lao National Assembly Sounthone Xayachak is in Hanoi for an official visit to Vietnam.

Vietnam and Laos this week celebrated 60 years of bilateral diplomacy and 45 years of the Friendship and Cooperation Treaty.
