NA Chairman meets Indian parliamentary speaker on IPU-150 Assembly sidelines
VOV.VN - Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam Tran Thanh Man met with Speaker of the Lok Sabha (Lower House) of India Om Birla in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, on the sidelines of the 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU-150).

During the meeting, Man congratulated India on its socio-economic development achievements as well as the successful organisation of the 18th Lok Sabha elections in June 2024. He also once again extended congratulations to Om Birla on being re-elected as Speaker of the Lok Sabha.
Om Birla, for his part, recalled fond memories of his visit to Vietnam in April 2020, during which both sides discussed various measures to enhance bilateral cooperation, especially in the field of culture.
The Indian legislator emphasised that as India strives to become a developed country by 2047 and Vietnam aims to become a modern industrialized economy by 2045, both countries should continue to exchange ideas and explore ways to advance together.
Both legislators highly appreciated the significant progress in the traditional friendship and Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and India. They agreed to enhance regular exchanges at all levels and through various channels. Both sides also called for effective implementation of existing mechanisms, agreements, and cooperation documents, including the Joint Statement on Strengthening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and the Plan of Action for the 2024–2028 period.

Regarding legislative cooperation, both leaders acknowledged that relations between the legislative bodies of the two countries have been steadily consolidated and developed on the basis of the cooperation agreement signed in December 2016, which has made important contributions to deepening the Vietnam – India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Accordingly, they agreed to further promote delegation exchanges and meetings between legislative leaders, committees, and friendship parliamentarian groups; as well as to strengthen cooperation and exchange of experiences, especially in institution-building and legislation. They also agreed to jointly implement existing cooperation mechanisms and documents effectively.
Recognizing the positive outcomes of bilateral economic and trade cooperation, the two leaders agreed to coordinate and implement breakthrough measures to double bilateral trade volume and further enhance mutual investments, commensurate with the potential of both countries.
The two sides also agreed to strengthen cooperation in other areas of mutual interest, including defence, security, tourism, culture, religion, and people-to-people exchanges. They emphasised the need to sign a Memorandum of Understanding on tourism cooperation soon, consider simplifying procedures, and move toward short-term visa exemptions for tourists.
Discussing multilateral issues, both sides agreed to enhance coordination and mutual support at multilateral forums, including inter-parliamentary platforms, thereby contributing to peace, stability, and development in the region and the world at large.
