Legislative leader lauds Cambodia-Vietnam cooperation

VOV.VN - Cambodian National Assembly Chairwoman Samdech Khuon Sudary hailed effective cooperation in various fields, especially in economy, trade and investment, between Cambodia and Vietnam, at a reception for Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Huy Tang in Phnom Penh on November 3.

Receiving the ambassador, Sudary emphasized the effective cooperation and mutual support between Cambodia and Vietnam, as well as between Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam in the past struggle for national independence and in the present cause of national construction and development.

She sincerely thanked the Party, State, and army of Vietnam for providing timely assistance and support to help liberate Cambodia from the Khmer Rouge genocidal regime in 1979.

She noted with satisfaction the positive development of the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries over the years through regular exchanges of high-level visits and promotion of cooperation mechanisms available, creating cohesion in the relationship between ministries and agencies of both sides.

With regard to parliamentary cooperation, Sudary suggested that the two sides continue to maintain long-term relations, strengthen close bonds and effectively implement signed agreements to improve the effectiveness of cooperation between the two legislative bodies.

Ambassador Tang for his part congratulated Cambodia on successfully holding a parliamentary election in July 2023, thus forming a new National Assembly and electing a new government which he said would continue to move Cambodia forward.

He also spoke highly of Cambodia’s rising position internationally through completing its role as ASEAN Chair in 2022, President of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly in 2022, and playing host to the 32nd Southeast Asian Games and the 12th ASEAN Para Games in 2023.

He reaffirmed Vietnam’s desire to consolidate and strengthen the solidarity, traditional neighbourliness, and comprehensive cooperation with Cambodia.

Both host and guest agreed that the two sides should increase the exchange of delegations to share information and experiences and to fully tap into existing cooperation mechanisms to bring practical benefits for their people.
