Laos and Vietnam urged to boost parliamentary cooperation
VOV.VN - Lao National Assembly President Saysomphone Phomvihane received General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam in Vientiane on December 1, during which they highlighted the significance of strengthening parliamentary cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.
President Phomvihane expressed his pleasure in hosting General Secretary Lam and recognised his substantial role in fostering the unique and enduring bond between the two countries, a relationship that stands out globally for its depth and mutual respect.
Both leaders emphasised the importance of increasing cooperation between the two legislatures. General Secretary Lam proposed enhancing collaboration, including the sharing of experiences in legislative development, legal system building, and effective oversight. He underlined the need to monitor and support joint investment projects, which would lay the foundation for long-term, mutually beneficial partnerships between the two countries.
In response, President Phomvihane assured that Laos would continue to closely coordinate with the National Assembly of Vietnam, particularly in the oversight of high-level agreements and significant economic initiatives.
At the meeting, the two leaders also attended an e-book launch titled “50 Years of Vietnam-Laos Parliamentary Relations: Comprehensive Cooperation and Development” at the Lao National Assembly headquarters. The publication serves as an important record of key milestones in the 50-year history of parliamentary collaboration between the two countries.
The two leaders agreed to continue their close cooperation at international and regional parliamentary forums, strengthening consultations and coordination on international issues to maintain peace, stability, and development in Southeast Asia.
General Secretary Lam affirmed that the strong parliamentary ties between Vietnam and Laos will not only deepen bilateral relations but also contribute to the broader goals of ASEAN and international cooperation.
The Party General Secretary thanked President Phomvihane for supporting the Vietnamese community in Laos and urged further assistance to create a favourable environment for Vietnamese businesses to invest and collaborate in Laos, contributing to the socio-economic development of both countries.
