Japanese PM Shiregu Ishiba to begin Vietnam visit today
VOV.VN - Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba and his spouse is to begin two-day official visit to Vietnam on April 27 at the invitation of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his spouse.

The visit takes place at a time when Vietnam and Japan continue to strengthen their comprehensive and substantive ties across multiple sectors. It also marks the first official visit to Vietnam by a Japanese Prime Minister since the two countries elevated their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2023.
In recent months, Ishiba has engaged actively with Vietnamese leaders at major international forums. He met Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh during ASEAN Summits 44 & 45 in October 2024, President Luong Cuong during the 28th APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in November 2024, and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man in Tokyo in December 2024.
Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Ito Naoki noted that though Ishiba has met several senior Vietnamese leaders, he has yet to meet Party General Secretary To Lam. The upcoming visit will therefore provide an important opportunity to build and deepen ties with Vietnam’s top leadership.
The Ambassador also emphasised Japan’s focus on expanding cooperation with Vietnam in key areas such as investment, trade, security, and people-to-people exchanges. Through this visit, Japan aims to further strengthen partnerships in digital transformation, green transition, semiconductor development, and human resource training.
Meanwhile, Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Pham Quang Hieu highlighted that Ishiba’s visit underscores Japan’s recognition of Vietnam’s growing role and influence in the region. He noted that the two sides would engage in substantive discussions to implement the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and enhance bilateral cooperation.
The visit is expected to produce significant outcomes, including the signing of multiple cooperation agreements in science and technology, green/digital economy, sustainable development, and the development of strategic infrastructure projects in transportation, energy, and electricity.
During his stay, Ishiba is scheduled to hold talks with Chinh, meet with other senior Party and State leaders, and participate in a series of important activities.
