Japan reaffirms extensive strategic partnership with Vietnam
VOV.VN - Vietnam is an extensive strategic partner that shares strategic interests with Japan, a Japanese Government official affirmed ahead of PM Fumio Kishida’s coming visit to Vietnam.
The official briefed media workers in Tokyo on April 28 on Kishida’s tentative schedule during his Vietnam visit from April 30 to May 1 as part of his Asian and European tour.
While in Hanoi, PM Kishida is scheduled to hold talks with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on May 1.
He will also have meetings with other senior Vietnamese leaders, including Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc and National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue.
Alongside Vietnam, Kishida will visit Indonesia on April 29 - 30 and Thailand on May 1 - 2. After that, he will visit Italy and the United Kingdom, and return to Japan on May 6.
This will be Kishida’s first long overseas trip since he took office last October.
The Japanese official affirmed that Kishida’s trip to Southeast Asia is to strengthen cooperation with the three countries to realize a free and open Indo-Pacific region, and at the same time further strengthen coordination on the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP).
In addition, Japan, the only Asian state in the Group of seven leading industrialized countries (G7), also wants to exchange views with countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) on the Ukraine situation.
