Israel views Vietnam as an increasingly important partner in Southeast Asia
VOV.VN - Israeli President Isaac Herzog described Vietnam as a dynamic and increasingly important partner in Southeast Asia while receiving the credentials of Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Ky Son in Jerusalem on May 18.
During the ceremony at the Presidential Residence, Herzog praised the positive momentum in bilateral relations in recent years, particularly in trade, investment, high-tech agriculture, innovation, and education.
The Israeli leader repeatedly emphasised Israel’s recognition of Vietnam’s growing regional role and expressed his desire to further strengthen practical cooperation with Hanoi in the coming period.
Beyond economic cooperation, Herzog also highlighted the unique historical foundation between the two countries, cultivated by President Ho Chi Minh of Vietnam and Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion of Israel, as well as their successors and people.
For his part, Ambassador Son affirmed that Israel remains one of Vietnam’s important partners in the Middle East and pledged to further expand cooperation in areas where Israel has strong expertise, including science and technology, innovation, cybersecurity, water resource management, and high-tech agriculture.
One notable focus of the discussions was the expected impact of the Vietnam–Israel Free Trade Agreement (VIFTA). Both sides expressed confidence that effective implementation of the agreement would create new momentum for bilateral trade and investment in the years ahead.
The two sides also discussed plans by Israeli carriers EL AL Airlines and Arkia Israeli Airlines to launch direct flights to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City from late 2026. According to the Israeli side, the new air routes are expected to significantly boost trade, tourism, and people-to-people connectivity between the two countries.
The ceremony took place in an atmosphere of openness and mutual trust, reflecting both Vietnam and Israel’s intention to deepen bilateral relations in a more substantive and practical manner, particularly in areas linked to economic and technological cooperation.
