International media say Party Congress sets new development direction for Vietnam

VOV.VN - The ongoing 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam in Hanoi has drawn wide attention from international media, reflecting the view that decisions and orientations set at the event hold significance beyond Vietnam, amid profound regional and global changes.

Foreign coverage has widely described the congress as a milestone opening a new phase of development for Vietnam, marked by a long-term vision, strong political resolve and a development approach that places people at the centre.

Indonesian audiences impressed by scale and strategic vision

In Indonesia, listeners following extensive radio programmes and continuous news updates on platforms operated by Voice of Vietnam (VOV) said they were impressed by the scale, thorough preparations and strategic orientation of the 14th Party Congress.

Rudy Hartono, chairman of the Borneo Radio Listening Club in West Kalimantan, told VOV the congress was not only a major political event but also a clear demonstration of Vietnam’s commitment to charting its future development path. He noted that the nationwide attention surrounding the congress reflected strong public confidence and high expectations for the decisions to be adopted, laying the groundwork for a new development era.

Major Indonesian media outlets such as Kompas, Detik, Tribunnews and Bisnis have also published in-depth articles analysing the significance of the congress for Vietnam and the wider region.

Magdalena Krisnawati, a Jakarta-based journalist, shared that Indonesian media in recent weeks have published extensive coverage to the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, reflecting the strong interest and close attention of the community to Vietnam’s important political event.

“I expect that under the Party’s leadership, Vietnam will continue to advance in the new era, achieve its set goals, move toward the 100th anniversary of the nation’s founding by 2030, and become a high-income developed country by 2045,” she told VOV.

Egyptian media: strategic autonomy as a core pillar

In Egypt, major newspapers noted that after nearly four decades of Đổi mới (Renewal), one of Vietnam’s most notable and enduring achievements has been the steady strengthening of its strategic autonomy.

Egyptian commentary said the 14th Party Congress further elevates this thinking, positioning strategic autonomy as a core foundation for sustainable development amid intensifying competition among major powers. This autonomy, they noted, extends beyond politics and defence to encompass the economy, diplomacy, culture and development.

Maintaining a socialist-oriented market economy, diversifying partnerships and avoiding overdependence on any single market or resource were described as sound strategic choices that enhance Vietnam’s resilience to external shocks.

Lao and Cuban media reaffirm Party leadership

Pasaxon, the official newspaper of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, along with the Lao News Agency, described the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam as a landmark event reflecting the confidence and development aspirations of the Vietnamese people.

The reports said the Congress is expected to further strengthen public trust in the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, while fostering determination and national unity as the country enters a new phase of development.

According to Lao media assessments, Vietnam’s achievements over nearly 40 years of Doi Moi stand as clear evidence of the effectiveness of a people-centered development approach. Political stability, social welfare, sustainable poverty reduction and continuous improvements in living standards were seen as key foundations for Vietnam’s continued rapid and resilient growth in the years ahead.

Meanwhile, major Cuban media outlets, including Granma, Prensa Latina, Juventud Rebelde and the Cuban News Agency (ACN), also underscored the leadership role of the Communist Party of Vietnam in guiding the country into a new era of national advancement.

Granma highlighted that Vietnam is laying the groundwork for a new stage of development driven by science, technology and innovation, while maintaining a strong focus on social progress and improving the quality of life for its people.

Russian media highlight long-term vision, new development model

In Russia, mainstream media outlets have given prominent coverage to Vietnam’s 14th National Party Congress, describing it as a landmark political event held at a time of heightened global uncertainty.

Russian reports praised the Party’s long-term strategic vision, noting that Vietnam’s development approach goes beyond economic growth to include social welfare, improved living standards and strengthened healthcare, education and social security systems. The principle of putting people at the centre of development was highlighted as a defining feature of Vietnam’s sustainable development strategy.

Rossiyskaya Gazeta, the official newspaper of the Russian government, paid particular attention to Vietnam’s goal of maintaining high average GDP growth in the 2026–2030 period, viewing it as evidence of the country’s determination to accelerate growth while shifting towards a technology-driven, innovation-led and digitally enabled development model. The paper said this transition underpins Vietnam’s ambition to become a high-income developed nation by 2045.

Japanese experts see promising development prospects

Japanese experts also described the 14th Party Congress as pivotal in shaping Vietnam’s future trajectory.

Kamino Takehiro of NHK noted that interest in the Congress extends beyond Vietnam to countries across the region and the world. With the goal of achieving average annual economic growth of 10% or higher by 2030, Vietnam is aiming to become a developed country by 2045. In this process, the private sector has been identified as a key driver of the economy, with policies expected to further enable it to play an increasingly significant role in national development.

Sharing a similar view, Toshiro Nishizawa from the University of Tokyo said Vietnam’s recent policy efforts clearly reflect a people-centred development approach.

“Vietnam is not pursuing economic growth alone, but is striving for inclusive development, ensuring that vulnerable groups and those in need of support are not left behind,” he told VOV. Recent policies, he added, also demonstrate a strong commitment to modernising both the economy and the national governance system.

Nishizawa expressed hope that Vietnam’s rise toward a leading position would go hand in hand with effective safeguard measures, as well as strong efforts and commitments to developing digital skills, so that no one is left behind in the country’s development process.
