Chinese media show strong interest in 14th National Party Congress
VOV.VN - On January 19 and 20, Chinese media outlets carried updates on the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, describing it as one of the world’s notable events of the week.
Information on the opening session of the 14th National Party Congress was continuously updated on the official website and platforms of China’s Xinhua News Agency. From the early hours, Xinhua published a series of photos capturing the atmosphere of the opening ceremony.
Immediately after the opening session concluded, information about the event appeared and was reposted by numerous Chinese media outlets at both central and local levels.
The Chinese media said, 1,586 delegates, representing more than 5.6 million members of the Communist Party of Vietnam, attended the congress.
The 14th National Party Congress will discuss and adopt a series of documents, including the Political Report; a report reviewing theoretical and practical issues of the renewal process over the past 40 years in Vietnam; a report reviewing 15 years of implementation of the Party Charter (2011-2025); and the working report of the 13th Party Central Committee. The congress will also elect the 14th Party Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
The Political Report integrates three reports-the Political Report, the socio-economic report and the report reviewing Party building, and, for the first time, incorporates an action programme that clearly specifies concrete tasks, implementation timelines and responsibilities. The draft report had previously been released for public consultation, attracting nearly 14 million comments.
Since late last week, several Chinese media outlets, including Caixin, a leading multimedia group providing news and financial information services, and The Paper, an online news platform of the Shanghai United Media Group, have listed the 14th National Party Congress among the international news events to watch this week, alongside major events such as the annual World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, with the expected appearance of US President Donald Trump.
In an article published on January 19-the first day of the congress-the Shanghai Observer wrote, “This congress will elect a new leadership, including the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, and outline future development goals for this rapidly developing economy.”
Citing analysts, the article said that with the setting of two long-term targets for 2030 and 2045, Vietnam’s GDP per capita is expected to increase by 70% by 2030 from the current level of US$5,000. The Vietnamese Government is expected to focus on promoting the private sector, digitalization and the development of science and technology.
The article commented that amid US tariff pressure of 20%, “Vietnam’s economy has demonstrated resilience, still recording economic growth of 8% last year.”
Before the 14th National Party Congress took place, Chinese media outlets had frequently reported on recent plenary meetings of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, showing the high level of interest among Chinese media and public opinion in this major political event of Vietnam.
