Indonesia views Vietnam as an important partner in region: President Prabowo
VOV.VN - Receiving Vietnamese Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan in Jakarta on October 21, President Prabowo Subianto affirmed that Vietnam is a very important partner for Indonesia in the region.
There is still significant room and potential to be harnessed to elevate cooperation between Indonesia and Vietnam, he told his guest.
Prabowo thanked Xuan for representing Vietnam at his inauguration ceremony, while recalling the positive impressions and tangible outcomes from his visit to Vietnam in September 2024. He also expressed admiration for the indomitable spirit in Vietnam’s struggle for national independence, as well as the diligence and creativity shown by the leaders and people of Vietnam throughout generations during the cause of national construction and development.
Xuan for her part congratulated Indonesia on its significant socio-economic development achievements, and expressed confidence that under Prabowo’s leadership, Indonesia will successfully achieve its goal of becoming a developed nation on its 100th founding anniversary in 2045, gaining an increasingly prominent and respected position in the region and the world.
Both sides praised the positive and effective developments in the Vietnam-Indonesia Strategic Partnership across all areas. They agreed to enhance high-level exchanges and contacts at all levels through various channels, including Party and State exchanges, people-to-people connections, and local collaborations.
They also discussed practical activities to be organized to celebrate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations (1955-2025) and the 80th anniversary of both countries’ independence in 2025.
The two sides aim to boost bilateral trade to reach US$18 billion soon, by encouraging their businesses to invest in each other’s markets, particularly in new fields such as the Halal industry, digital economy, green economy, energy transition, and electric vehicle ecosystems.
Xuan urged Indonesia to continue facilitating the access of Vietnamese agricultural products and Halal goods to the Indonesian market, as well as supporting Vietnamese investment projects in Indonesia.
They agreed to strengthen cooperation in other critical areas, including defense-security, combating transnational crime, and maritime cooperation.
The two leaders also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual concern, agreeing to continue close cooperation and mutual support in regional and international forums, especially in maintaining ASEAN’s unity and central role in regional issues, including the East Sea.
They emphasized the importance of promoting substantive and effective negotiations for the Code of Conduct in the East Sea in accordance with international law, particularly the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
