Indonesia fires canon salutes to welcome Party leader To Lam on state visit
VOV.VN - Indonesia on March 9 fired seven cannon salutes at Halim Perdanakusuma military airport to welcome Vietnamese Party General Secretary To Lam and his entourage who arrived there for a state visit at the invitation of President and Chairman of the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) Prabowo Subianto.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Indonesia Ta Van Thong, Ambassador and Head of the Vietnamese Delegation to ASEAN Ton Thi Ngoc Huong, along with representatives of embassy staff and the Vietnamese Delegation to ASEAN, were present to welcome the General Secretary.
Indonesia is To Lam’s first stopover during his Southeast Asian tour that that will later take him to the ASEAN Secretariat and Singapore. The visit takes place amid the strong development of bilateral relations, especially as the two countries are celebrating the 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties (1955 – 2025). The trip is expected to enhance political trust and elevate cooperation across all fields between Vietnam and Indonesia.
Over the past 70 years, despite global and regional changes, Vietnam and Indonesia have been close friends and important partners.
Indonesia currently has 123 active projects in Vietnam, with a total investment of US$682 million. Meanwhile, Vietnam’s investment in Indonesia is also on the rise.
The two countries cooperate in the field of security to promote regional peace and stability, alongside other fields such as education, culture, agriculture, energy, and legislation.
Vietnam joined ASEAN in 1995 and the past three decades has seen the journey filled with remarkable milestones for both sides. Over time, Vietnam has grown steadily, becoming more proactive and ready to contribute to the bloc’s collective efforts.
Throughout its participation in ASEAN, Vietnam has consistently prioritized maintaining ASEAN’s unity and solidarity. The achievements of ASEAN over nearly 60 years stand as a testament to the principle that “solidarity is strength.” In times of uncertainty, ASEAN's spirit of solidarity, cohesion, and mutual support shines even brighter, enabling the region to overcome challenges together.
Vietnam has always considered ASEAN a top priority in its foreign policy. Most recently, it successfully hosted the ASEAN Future Forum 2025 in Hanoi, further reaffirming its commitment to regional cooperation and leadership.
