VOV.VN - Speaker of the Indian Lok Sabha (the lower house) Om Birla on April 20 laid a wreath at President Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum, paying his respect to the late Vietnamese President.
Birla is in Hanoi for an official visit to Vietnam at the invitation of Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue.
This is his first visit to Vietnam after he took office in June 2019.
The visit by Speaker Om Birla is of great significance as it helps contribute to strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, as well as cooperation between the two legislative bodies.
The visit came hot on the heels of the successful visit to India in 2021 by Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue.
After arriving in Hanoi on April 19, Speaker Birla held talks with National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue, paid a courtesy visit to State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc and met with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
The same day, the Indian leader also gave a courtesy call to Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
