HCM City gathering marks 75 years of Vietnam – China diplomacy
VOV.VN - The Union of Friendship Organizations of Ho Chi Minh City and the Vietnam-China Friendship Association of Ho Chi Minh City held a meeting on January 16 to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and China (January 18, 1950 –2025).
In his opening remarks, Nguyen Huu Hiep, chairman of the Vietnam-China Friendship Association in Ho Chi Minh City, reviewed major milestones in bilateral relations, noting the healthy development of Vietnam – China relations through strategic exchanges is crucial for peace, stability, and development in the region and the world. In recent years, two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and China has continuously grown, reaching US$180 billion in 2023 and US$200 billion in 2024.
According to the official, cooperation between the Union of Friendship Organizations, the Vietnam-China Friendship Association of Ho Chi Minh City, the Chinese Consulate General, and Chinese business communities in the city has proved effective in various domains over the years.
The Association has effectively coordinated in friendly, cultural, charitable, and exchange activities between delegations, thereby enhancing mutual understanding between the people of Ho Chi Minh City and various regions of China, especially those that have sister-city relationships with the city.
In 2025, the Association will continue to collaborate with the Chinese Consulate General, the China Business Association in Ho Chi Minh City, and other relevant agencies to organize a series of peace, solidarity, and friendship activities, in celebration of the Year of Vietnam – China Humanistic Exchange 2025, so as to further enhance the friendship between the people of Vietnam and China, said Hiep.
At the meeting, the Chinese Consul General to Ho Chi Minh City Wei Huaxiang highly appreciated the important role of the Vietnam-China Friendship Association of Ho Chi Minh City and relevant agencies in furthering the traditional friendship between China and Vietnam.
He recalled that during a recent visit to Dien Bien Phu, members of the Chinese Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City and the Vietnam-China Friendship Association of Ho Chi Minh City together reminisced about the revolutionary friendship between China and Vietnam and explored touching stories of friendship between the two countries.
In his views, Ho Chi Minh City is not only Vietnam’s economic center but also the frontline for opening up international relations.
The Chinese Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City is ready to play its role as a bridge, continuing to promote exchanges in various fields between Ho Chi Minh City and regions in China, he affirmed.
