Greek Ambassador awarded friendship insignia of Vietnam

VOV.VN - The Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) on October 15 presented its insignia “For Peace and Friendship among Nations” to Greek Ambassador to Vietnam Georgios Stilianopoulos in recognition of his contributions to promoting friendship between Vietnam and Greece.

Addressing the ceremony in Hanoi, VUFO president Phan Anh Son, acknowledged the ambassador’s practical contributions to strengthening friendship and cooperation in various fields between the two countries.

The ambassador has actively worked alongside Vietnamese agencies to successfully organise visit exchanges between the two sides, especially the Vietnam visits by Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou in May 2022 and Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias in August 2022; and the Greece visit by Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan in November 2021.

According to Son, the diplomat has also played an important role in enhancing bilateral cooperation in education-training, health care, economics, sports, labour, and maritime.

A typical example was the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation signed between Hanoi University of Home Affairs (HUHA) and two Greek higher education institutions, Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB) and The Business College of Athens (BCA) in 2022.

The diplomat has actively promoted the export of Greece’s high-quality agricultural products to the Vietnamese market, including saffron, as well as the signing of an MoU on migration and labour mobility cooperation between the Ministry of Immigration and Asylum of Greece and the Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA) of Vietnam, he noted.

He expressed his belief that Stilianopoulos will continue his active contributions to the consolidation and development of bilateral solidarity, friendship, and cooperation in whatever position he will be holding in future.

For his part, the Greek Ambassador thanked the VUFO and other Vietnamese agencies for their support during his working term in Vietnam. He emphasised that as one of the countries that ratified the Vietnam-EU Comprehensive Partnership and Cooperation Framework Agreement (PCA), Greece supported the early ratification of the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and ratified the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA).

On that basis, the Ambassador outlined his hope that Vietnam will further strengthen its relations with the EU, while affirming that Greece will serve as a gateway for Vietnamese goods to enter the EU.

He vowed to continue working to reinforce and develop the friendship and cooperation between the two countries in any position.
