Governor-General of Australia Sam Mostyn mourns Vietnamese Party leader
VOV.VN - Governor-General of Australia Sam Mostyn on July 25 paid her tribute to Vietnamese Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong at the Consulate General of Vietnam in Sydney.
Mostyn extended her condolences to the government and people of Vietnam over the recent passing of the Vietnamese leader.
Writing the condolence book, the Governor-General affirmed that Nguyen Phu Trong had made important contributions to the recent upgrade of Australia – Vietnam relationship to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Earlier, after hearing about the news, Mostyn cabled a telegram of condolence to Vietnamese President To Lam, noting the international community has given high respect to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s contributions to the country and people of Vietnam. She said the efforts and legacy of Nguyen Phu Trong for peace and prosperity of Vietnam will always be remembered.
Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong passed away in Hanoi on July 19 at the age of 80 due to his old age and serious illness.
Vietnamese authorities have decided to hold a two-day State funeral in honour of the party leader’s contributions to the nation on July 25-26.
Cuba and Laos have also decided to hold a day of national mourning for the Vietnamese leader.
