Germany to expand cooperative relations with Vietnam
VOV.VN - Germany expects to expand and diversify its political and economic relations with Vietnam through the coming visit to Hanoi by President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, said the German Embassy in Hanoi.
German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife will pay a State visit to Vietnam on January 23-24 at the invitation of President Vo Van Thuong and his wife.
He will be accompanied by a group of leading German businesses that are to explore investment opportunities in Vietnam.
Currently there are more than 350 German firms operating in Vietnam, of which Siemens, B.Braun, Messer, Mercedes-Benz, Bilfinger, Bosch, Deutsche Bank, Allianz and some others are multinational corporations.
As of May 2023, Germany had 444 valid projects with a total registered investment capital of over US$2.36 billion, ranking fourth among 24 EU member states and 18th among 143 countries and territories investing in Vietnam.
Germany is Vietnam’s largest trading partner in Europe, accounting for nearly 20% of the latter’s exports to the EU. It is also an important transit gateway for Vietnamese goods to enter other markets in Europe.
At present, about 300 Vietnamese students are doing post-graduate courses under the scholarship programme and about 7,500 others are studying at German universities.
The two countries also increase cooperation in other fields such as tourism, science-technology, culture and health care.
During his stay in Vietnam, President Steinmeier is scheduled to hold talks with President Thuong, and have meetings with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue, according to the German Embassy.
In addition, President Steinmeier will visit the Temple of Literature and meet with labour recruitment businesses to learn about labour cooperation between Vietnam and Germany.
On January 24, he will fly to Ho Chi Minh City where he will representatives of the two countries’ business communities to examine the prospects for economic and trade relations between Vietnam and Germany. The President will then visit Vietnam-Germany University (VGU) and deliver a speech to the university’s lecturers and students.
