France supports stronger cooperation with Vietnam
VOV.VN - France will continue to support and assist Vietnam in dealing with difficulties caused by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as in enhancing bilateral relations in various fields.
Catherine Deroche, chairwoman of the France-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians’ Group in the French Senate, made the statement during a meeting with newly accredited Vietnamese Ambassador to France Dinh Toan Thang in Paris on July 20.
She said France wants to strengthen cooperation with Vietnam, especially in economics, education-training and health care, as well as cooperation between businesses, associations and localities of the two countries.
She also reaffirmed France’s strategic support for Vietnam in calling for respect for the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and the right to freedom of navigation in the South China Sea, known as the East Sea in Vietnam.
Deroche asked the Ambassador to convey an invitation to the leadership of the Vietnam-France Friendship Parliamentarians Group to pay a working visit to France.
For his part, Ambassador Dinh Toan Thang expressed his wish that the France-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians’ Group in the French Senate will continue to support Vietnam in increasing cooperative relations between Vietnam and France and the European Union, while lobbying for the ratification of the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA).
During the meeting, Thang and Deroche highly appreciated the recent online exchanges between the leaders of the two countries, give fresh impetus to the development of the Vietnam-France relations.
The two sides agreed work closely in the coming time to promote reciprocal high-level visits and exchanges between the National Assembly of Vietnam and the French Senate, and to prepare for the 12th conference on cooperation between localities of the two countries in 2022 in Hanoi.
