Foreign Ministers discuss Vietnam – China cooperation

Both diplomat chiefs reached a consensus on measures to effectively implement high-level common perceptions and agreements, especially the December 2023 joint statement on continuing to deepen and elevate the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership and build a China-Vietnam community with a shared future that carries strategic significance.

They agreed to continue to increase exchanges and contacts, well organize important foreign affairs activities, and enhance dialogue and cooperation mechanisms between the two sides, focusing on the 16th meeting of the Vietnam –China Steering Committee for Bilateral Cooperation to be held in China.

The two sides consented to improve the effectiveness of cooperation in practical areas, especially economics - trade - investment, strategic infrastructure development such as roads and rail, actively promote the pilot construction of smart border gates to facilitate trade.

They agreed to further strengthen people-to-people exchanges, increase local cooperation, coordinate closely at multilateral forums, while maintaining close coordination in land border management and protection in line with three legal documents on Vietnam - China land border agreements.

With regard to the East Sea issue, the two sides emphasized the importance of seriously implementing agreements and common perceptions of senior leaders of the two Parties and countries on properly controlling and resolving disagreements, maximizing the effectiveness of negotiation mechanisms on maritime issues, contributing to maintaining peace and stability in the regional waters.
