Economic cooperation high on agenda for Christopher Luxon’s Vietnam visit
VOV.VN - New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has said enhancing bilateral cooperation, especially in economy, is one of the primary goals of his working visit to Vietnam from February 25-28.

Luxon affirmed ahead of his trip that Vietnam is a ‘rising star’ in Southeast Asia and one of the region’s fastest-growing economies.
As the two countries are celebrating 50 years of their diplomatic relations this year, he expected that his visit would inject new momentum into bilateral relations, boost trade, and open up collaboration opportunities for businesses from both sides.
“This year our two countries celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations. My visit will further energise our relationships, strengthen existing trade, and open the door to more opportunities for New Zealand businesses, to grow incomes and create jobs here at home,” he said in a statement.
Trade between the two countries has increased by 40% over the past five years, yet Luxon believed there is still significant growth potential. He was committed to pushing for the ambitious goal of reaching US$3 billion in two-way trade by 2026.
He also emphasized that with market of more than 100 million consumers and an economic growth rate consistently above 5% for more than two decades, Vietnam presents tremendous opportunities, particularly in international education and high-quality food and beverage exports.
During his working visit to Vietnam, Luxon is expected to hold discussions with senior Vietnamese leaders on strengthening the Strategic Partnership and expanding bilateral cooperation.
He will also deliver a keynote speech at the second ASEAN Future Forum in Hanoi.
His visit comes as New Zealand also marks 50 years of its dialogue partnership with ASEAN. Luxon stressed that ASEAN’s success is crucial to New Zealand’s security and prosperity. He reaffirmed New Zealand’s commitment to enhancing cooperation, deepening relations with ASEAN, and seizing economic opportunities for New Zealand businesses.
