Dominican Republic learns from Vietnam’s development, integration experience
VOV.VN - The Dominican Republic wishes to learn from Vietnam’s development and integration experience, said Mejia Abreu Jose Miguel, General Secretary of the United Left Movement Party (MIU) of the Dominican Republic during his meeting with a senior Vietnamese official in Hanoi on September 4.

Mejia Abreu, who is also Minister of Regional Integration Policies of the Dominican Republic, is paying a working visit to Vietnam where he attended in a grand ceremony marking the country’s 80th August Revolution and National Day on September 2.
He congratulated Vietnam on successfully organising the event and expressed admiration for Vietnam’s heroic history, its late President Ho Chi Minh, and the country’s achievements over nearly four decades of renewal and development.
Mejia Abreu reaffirmed his country's desire to share Vietnam’s development and international integration experience, especially as global and regional economic-security dynamics increasingly affect Latin America and the Dominican Republic. He also pledged to foster business connections between the two countries to explore potential areas of cooperation, contributing to a stronger and more effective bilateral partnership in the years to come.
Receiving the guest, Phan Dinh Trac, Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, and Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Internal Affairs, welcomed Mejia Abreu’s return to Vietnam for the 80th Anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day - a historic milestone and major national celebration.
He thanked the people and progressive, revolutionary parties of Latin America, including the Dominican Republic, for their longstanding solidarity and support for Vietnam’s struggle for national independence and unification, as well as the country’s ongoing efforts in renewal, construction, and national defence.
He affirmed that Vietnam remains steadfast in pursuing an independent, self-reliant, peaceful, friendly, cooperative, and developmental foreign policy, while promoting multilateralisation and diversification of external relations and being a good friend, reliable partner, and responsible member of the international community for peace and development.

To further deepen bilateral ties, Trac proposed that both sides strengthen high-level exchanges and effectively implement the 2023–2028 Cooperation Agreement between the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and the United Left Movement Party. He encouraged closer coordination to realise outcomes from Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s official visit to the Dominican Republic, and to promote the negotiation and signing of bilateral cooperation agreements, particularly in trade, investment, agriculture, tourism, and legal frameworks that support long-term cooperation.
He also emphasised the importance of external communications efforts to popularise the image of President Ho Chi Minh and Vietnam in the Dominican Republic and across Latin America. He called for the MIU’s support in enhancing the CPV’s relations with other political parties in the region, as well as with multilateral political forums such as the Sao Paulo Forum and the International Conference on Political Parties and a New Society.
