Dominica attaches importance to relations with Vietnam

VOV.VN - The Dominican Republic highly values its relationship with Vietnam, which plays a growing strategic role in the Asia-Pacific, said President Luis Abinader Corona.

Receiving Vietnamese Ambassador to Cuba, concurrently accredited to the Dominican Republic, Le Quang Long in capital Santo Domingo on May 29 shortly after the credentials presentation ceremony, Abinader expressed admiration for Vietnam’s heroic history of national struggle and its current national construction and development efforts.

He proposed that the two countries should expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest, especially telecommunications, agriculture, and high technology.

The President congratulated Long and expressed his confidence that the Ambassador would contribute to further advancing the friendship and cooperation between the two countries during his tenure.

During the reception, Long conveyed the greetings and best wishes from senior Vietnamese leaders, including Party General Secretary To Lam, President Luong Cuong, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, to President Abinader.

He said he would do his best during the tenure to elevate bilateral relations to new heights. He also pledged to serve as a bridge to effectively implement the agreements reached during Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s visit to the Dominican Republic in November 2024.

The Ambassador also proposed that the Dominican Government create favourable conditions for Vietnamese businesses to access the Dominican market, particularly in telecommunications, a field in which Vietnam holds strong expertise and Dominica has growing demand.

On this occasion, Long also held working meetings with Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Francisco Caraballo and Miguel Mejía, General Secretary of the United Left Movement Party MIU) of the Dominican Republic.

Both sides emphasised the importance of turning high-level agreements into practical and effective outcomes to bring Vietnam–Dominica relations to a new level.

They agreed to continue promoting delegation exchanges at all levels, effectively implement the political consultation mechanism, strengthen bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual strength and need, and coordinate closely and support each other at international forums.
