Chinese Premier Li Qiang to visit Vietnam soon

VOV.VN - Chinese Premier Li Qiang will pay an official visit to Vietnam from October 12 to 14 at the invitation of Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, according to a communique from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam.

This is Li’s first visit to Vietnam after he took office in March 2023.

Vietnam and China are two neighbouring countries with many cultural and social similarities. The two countries established diplomatic relations on January 18, 1950.

Since Vietnam and China normalized their relations in 1991, bilateral ties have developed extensively across all areas, including politics, economics, culture, security, and defense. High-level exchanges and contacts have been maintained regularly through various flexible formats.

Through visits and interactions, the leaders of both parties and countries have reached many important common perceptions, contributing to strengthening political trust and promoting comprehensive cooperation in various fields, and serving as a foundational strategic orientation for the healthy and stable development of Vietnam-China relations.

Both sides have committed to developing their relationship based on the principle of “friendly neighbourliness, comprehensive cooperation, long-term stability, and a future-oriented thinking” and the spirit of “good neighbours, good friends, good comrades, and good partners”.

In 2008, the two sides agreed to establish the framework for the Vietnam-China Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership, the highest and most comprehensive cooperation framework in Vietnam’s relations with countries worldwide. China was also the first country to join Vietnam in building this cooperation framework.

China is Vietnam’s largest trading partner and its second-largest export market. Vietnam is China’s largest trading partner in ASEAN and the fifth-largest trading partner globally. Last year saw two-way trade turnover between the two countries reach US$171.9 billion.

The number of Chinese tourists visiting Vietnam in the first six months of this year exceeded the total for all of 2023. Vietnam has 23,000 students studying in China, double the number from the pre-COVID-19 period.
