Brazilian President Lula da Silva begins state visit to Vietnam today
VOV.VN - Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is scheduled to begin his State visit to Vietnam on March 27 at the invitation of President Luong Cuong.

President Lula da Silva is the first foreign head of state to make a State visit to Vietnam in 2025. This is also his second visit to Vietnam as the head of state of Brazil, following his first trip in 2008.
Brazil was the first country in Latin America to elevate its relationship with Vietnam to a Strategic Partnership. Meanwhile, Vietnam became the first ASEAN country to establish a Strategic Partnership with Brazil in South America, marking a significant step forward in its efforts to strengthen cooperation with the Latin American region.
Lula da Silva’s March 27-29 visit reaffirms the commitment of both countries to implementing effective measures under the Strategic Partnership framework established in 2024.
Vietnamese Ambassador to Brazil Bui Van Nghi stated that during the visit both sides will outline specific measures to promote economic and trade cooperation, expand markets, and enhance investment between Vietnam and Brazil.
It is expected that ministries, local authorities, and businesses from both countries will sign cooperation agreements, creating a favourable legal framework for the implementation of practical cooperation programmes that will yield long-term benefits for both sides, said the Ambassador.
Currently, Brazil is Vietnam’s largest trading partner in Latin America. In 2024, to-way trade between the two countries reached nearly US$8 billion, accounting for 34.8% of Vietnam’s total trade with the Latin American region.
Statistics show, Vietnam’s exports to Brazil amounted to US$2.6 billion, while imports reached nearly US$5.4 billion. Its key exports to Brazil include electronics, tires, clothing, and footwear, while its main imports are soybeans, corn, and cotton.
Vietnam and Brazil have significant potential to strengthen cooperation in renewable energy, manufacturing, high-tech agriculture, biofuels, security and defense, education and training, and climate change response.
During his State visit to Vietnam, President Lula da Silva is expected to attend an official welcoming ceremony, hold talks with President Luong Cuong, meet with other senior Vietnamese leaders, and engage in key activities in Hanoi.
