Brazil greatly values cooperation with Vietnam
VOV.VN - Vice President of the Brazilian Senate Eduardo Gomes has praised the growing trade ties between Vietnam and Brazil and proposed organizing an exhibition on Vietnam at the Senate.

During a meeting with Vietnamese Ambassador to Brazil Bui Van Nghi on March 12 in Brasília, Senator Gomes underlined the need to deepen Brazilians' understanding of Vietnam and to strengthen economic, trade, and cultural cooperation between the two countries. He stated that these efforts should align with the strategic partnership established during Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s visit to Brazil in November 2024.
The Vietnamese diplomat highlighted Brazil as Vietnam’s largest partner in Latin America. Vietnam imports soybeans, corn, and cotton from Brazil while exporting electronics, tires, garments, and footwear. He also underscored the urgency of accelerating negotiations on a free trade agreement between Vietnam and the Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR).
On the same day, Ambassador Bui Van Nghi met with Celso Amorim, Special Advisor to the Brazilian President, to discuss bilateral relations.
On March 13, the Brazil-ASEAN Parliamentary Friendship Group was launched at the headquarters of the Brazilian National Congress.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Ports and Airports Sílvio Costa Filho highlighted the strategic importance of the Asian market for Brazil, not only in agriculture and animal protein but also in technology exchange, a priority area for ASEAN.
Waldemar Oliveira, Chairman of the Brazil-ASEAN Parliamentary Friendship Group, noted that in 2020, trade between Brazil and ASEAN surpassed US$22 billion, marking a 30% increase from previous years.
ASEAN is a key market for Brazil, offering plenty of opportunities for industrial goods and services exports. Oliveira stressed that Brazil-ASEAN trade ties provide a strong foundation for market diversification, reducing dependence on traditional economies, and bolstering Brazil’s global standing.
He added that Brazil’s current exports to ASEAN primarily include soybeans, coffee, beef, and chicken, but industrial goods and services are expected to see increased trade in the future.
