AstraZeneca encouraged to build pharmaceutical manufacturing plant in Vietnam
VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has proposed that AstraZeneca consider building a pharmaceutical manufacturing plant in Vietnam to strengthen cooperation in the pharmaceutical and healthcare sector between Vietnam and Sweden.

Receiving the leadership of AstraZeneca in Stockholm on June 13, Chinh highly appreciated the firm’s contributions to healthcare, pharmaceutical development, and its support during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in Vietnam.
He expressed his strong desire and readiness to quickly grant AstraZeneca the license to invest in a pharmaceutical and vaccine manufacturing facility in Vietnam. He highlighted the significance of technology transfer, creating jobs for Vietnamese workers, and providing medicines and vaccines to Vietnam’s population of 100 million, as well as to the wider region.
The Prime Minister noted that Vietnam has implemented many incentive policies, including streamlined administrative procedures and support for research, clinical trials, and technology transfer, especially for new drugs, original branded drugs, high-tech medicines, vaccines, and rare disease treatments produced domestically. He urged AstraZeneca to continue cooperating with Vietnam to enhance efforts against non-communicable diseases.
In response to AstraZeneca’s requests to expedite clinical trial approvals while maintaining safety, enhance early screening for non-communicable diseases, and implement special policies for rare diseases, the Prime Minister reaffirmed the Vietnamese government’s commitment to supporting foreign investors on the basis of benefit harmonisation and risk sharing.
Also on June 13, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh also met with the leadership of H&M and SYRE Group.
He congratulated H&M on its success in Vietnam’s 100-million-consumer market and appreciated the efforts of both H&M and SYRE in developing a global circular textile ecosystem, which he said meets Vietnam’s sustainable development goals. He encouraged SYRE to share its expertise in managing a sustainable circular textile ecosystem.
Chinh welcomed SYRE’s project proposal aimed at making Vietnam the world’s first global hub for high-tech circular textiles. He proposed that H&M and SYRE share experience and engage in formulating sustainable textile and footwear industry regulations in Vietnam.
He encouraged the two firms to use Vietnam’s raw materials given its strength in textiles and to strictly commit to high-tech processes and environmentally friendly materials to ensure sustainable development.
The leaders of H&M and SYRE pledged to implement their projects in line with Vietnam’s goals for the circular economy and environmental protection as directed.
