Angola welcomes President Luong Cuong on State visit with 21-gun salute
VOV.VN - Angola on August 7 fired a 21-gun salute to welcome Vietnamese President Luong Cuong and his spouse on a State visit to the African nation at the invitation of President Joao Manuel Goncalves Lourenco.

President Joao Lourenco and his spouse themselves hosted the welcoming ceremony for President Luong Cuong and his spouse held at the Presidential Palace in capital Luanda.
This visit takes place at a meaningful time as Vietnam and Angola are celebrating the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic relations (November 12, 1975 – 2025). It represents a significant milestone and paves the way for a new phase of development in bilateral ties.
Despite being located on different continents, Vietnam and Angola have maintained a close and effective cooperative relationship forged through their shared struggle for national independence. Built on a solid political foundation, the two countries have established a framework of cooperation across multiple fields. Both sides have consistently supported each other at multilateral forums, especially within the framework of the United Nations and the Non-Aligned Movement.
Amid complex developments in the global economy and trade landscape, President Luong Cuong’s visit is viewed as a strategic step to implement Vietnam’s policy of diversifying markets and partners, particularly in Africa, a continent with a population of 1.5 billion, a rapidly growing middle class, abundant natural resources, and an increasingly important role in the global economy.

The visit is expected to further deepen the traditional friendship between the two countries and create a foundation for the signing of new agreements and cooperation in priority areas such as energy, agriculture, education, healthcare, green and digital transformation, climate change response, labour, tourism, and cultural exchanges.
Moreover, as Angola currently holds the rotating chairmanship of the African Union, the visit presents an important opportunity to boost cooperation between Vietnam and the African Union, as well as between Angola and ASEAN. It also underscores the role of both countries as bridges to foster stronger ties between the two regional blocs.
Following the welcoming ceremony, President Luong Cuong and President Joao Lourenco held a retreat meeting, after which they led their respective high-level delegations in official talks. The discussions focused on concrete measures to further enhance the depth and effectiveness of bilateral relations across various sectors.
