Deputy PM meets with leader of Chinese aircraft manufacturer

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha received Tan Wangeng, Director of Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd. (COMAC) in Hanoi on January 15.

Commending COMAC’s achievements in production and business operations, the Deputy PM welcomed its interest in collaborating with Vietnamese airlines, including VietJet, to diversify Vietnam’s aircraft fleet and meet the rapid growth of the country's aviation market.

He stressed that cooperation between Vietnamese and Chinese enterprises must adhere to strict aviation standards and regulations set by both countries, as well as international authorities, which include aircraft and safety standards, insurance policies, and maintenance systems required for commercial operation.

Ha urged COMAC to provide comprehensive information on its aircraft that have been commercially operated and reviewed by international organisations and countries.

In the initial phase, the official suggested that VietJet and COMAC explore cooperation with a Chinese airline currently operating COMAC’s airplanes to test specific routes already serviced by VietJet.

He tasked the Ministry of Transport with leading efforts to review existing legal regulations and propose amendments to address challenges to the operation of COMAC aircraft in Vietnam.

For his part, Tan assessed that Vietnam's aviation is a driving force for broader regional aviation. The business leader expressed a desire for stronger cooperation with Vietnamese partners to realise common perceptions and agreements reached by the two nations' high-ranking leaders.
