Deputy PM meets French development agency leader

VOV.VN - Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha met with Marie Helene Loison, deputy CEO of the French Development Agency (AFD), on June 21 in Paris during his working visit to France to attend the Summit for a New Global Financial Pact.

Deputy PM Ha hailed the idea put forward by French President Emmanuel Macron of organising a summit to seek new public and private financial sources, thereby contributing to promoting finance serving development and the implementation of sustainable development goals (SDGs).

He showed delight at the positive development in mutual relations, especially in terms of economics, one of the key pillars in the strategic partnership that exists between the two countries.

The official spoke glowingly of the role that the AFD has played in effectively implementing development aid projects in the nation since 1994, especially in the fields of energy, climate change, and urban transport.

The Vietnamese Deputy PM Ha therefore suggested that the AFD continue to support and promote co-operation with Vietnam in projects in emission reduction and climate change response, particularly in coastal areas and the Mekong Delta region.

In response, Loison noted that Deputy PM Ha's participation in the summit shows the country’s strong commitments and responsibility in terms of joining the international community’s climate change response efforts.

She showed her pleasure at being able to discuss cooperation between the AFD and the nation, especially on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of joint diplomatic relations and 30 years of partnership between the AFD and Vietnam.

She therefore affirmed that the agency will continue to conduct research programmes on the impact of climate change on local socio-economic development (GEMMES), while supporting the country in strengthening policy building and technology transfer. This is along with providing financial assistance in terms of green energy development, renewable energy, smart power transmission, and green fuel production.

The two sides therefore agreed to further promote ties in energy transition, especially amid the country giving strong commitments at the 26th UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) and joining the Just Energy Transition Partnerships (JETP).

They also concurred to continue to co-ordinate closely in terms of implementing economic projects serving sustainable development in the country.
