Day one: Party chief’s visit to Cambodia in pictures

VOV.VN - Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong is in Cambodia for a state visit. This is his first visit to the country as the head of the Communist Party of Vietnam after the 12th National Party Congress.

Party leader Trong arrived in Cambodia on July 20 for a state visit as part of a push to strengthen ties between the two neighbouring Southeast Asian countries.

The Party leader is greeted at Phnom Penh Airport by Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Royal Palace Samdech Kong Som Ol, members of the Royal family, and representatives of the Foreign Ministry and the People's Party.

On the Vietnamese side, Ambassador to Cambodia Thach Du, the embassy staff and a large number of Overseas Vietnamese greet Party leader Trong at the airport.

After holding talks with King Norodom Sihamoni, Party leader Trong lay flowers at the statue of Norodom Sihanouk, visit the King’s mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk, and lay a floral tribute at the Independence Monument, the Norodom Sihanouk Memorial, and the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Monument.

The Party leader meets Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen at the Royal Palace on the afternoon of July 20.

Party leader Trong witnesses the signing of a joint statement on enhancing the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia, and other cooperative documents, including the one on connecting the two economies and a protocol on regular search and rescue in land border areas.

The Party chief meets Honorary President of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) and President of the National Assembly Heng Samrin.

The two leaders witness the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Vietnam’s donation of an office building to the National Assembly of Cambodia. The MoU was signed by Vietnamese NA Vice Chairman Uong Chu Luu and the Second Vice NA Chairman of Cambodia.
