Cyprus appreciative of progress in friendly relations with Vietnam

VOV.VN - President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades has expressed his satisfaction at the rapid progress made in the establishment of strong and friendly relations between Vietnam and his nation over the past five decades.

This comes after Vietnamese Ambassador to the Republic of Italy and the Republic of Cyprus Duong Hai Hung presented the credential letter of President Nguyen Xuan Phuc to Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades at the Presidential Palace in the Cypriot capital of Nicosia on July 13.

During the credential letter presentation ceremony, Ambassador Hung conveyed the greetings and best wishes sent by President Phuc and senior Vietnamese leaders to the Cypriot President.

Expressing great honour at having the opportunity to serve as Vietnamese Ambassador to Cyprus, the Vietnamese diplomat pledged his best efforts to competently fulfill the task, as well as contributing to developing mutual ties between the two countries. Indeed, diplomatic relations are based on a strong foundation of the sound traditional friendship that has existed for nearly half a century since the two countries first established diplomatic ties back in 1975.

President Anastasiades expressed his thanks and asked Hung to convey his best regards and wishes to President Phuc and other senior Vietnamese leaders.

The Cypriot President said that the outstanding proof of this strong relationship is the presence of a large Vietnamese community in Cyprus which contributes to socio-economic development whilst enriching the culture of the island country in the Mediterranean Sea. This is in addition to serving as a bridge to deepen mutual understanding between the peoples of both sides.

He also affirmed that both he and the Cyprus Government will strive to support and help Ambassador Hung fully carry out his new duties.

Within the framework of his business trip to Cyprus, Ambassador Hung paid a courtesy visit, worked with leaders of Cypriot agencies such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and met with the Vietnamese Community in Cyprus.
