Cuba, Vietnam seek to build stronger defence ties
VOV.VN - A delegation of the National Defence Ministry led by its Deputy Minister Senior Lieutenant General Vo Minh Luong has been paying a working visit to Cuba from November 18 to November 25.
The visit comes following an invitation by the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces, with a view to boosting bilateral co-operation in building laws on military and national defence, a new area that they has potential and there is currently demand for.
During the course of talks with the Vietnamese delegation, Minister of the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces Senior Lieutenant General Álvaro López Miera welcomed the delegation and stressed that their visit helps to strengthen traditional friendship relations between the two countries and two armies.
Both sides agreed that since the official visit to Vietnam by Minister Miera in June, agencies and units of the two sides have actively co-ordinated to realise the joint contents agreed upon by the two ministers, particularly collaboration in the military and national defence legal system.
Minister Luong affirmed that the Vietnamese side always greatly values its ties with Cuba, in which defence co-operation enjoys plenty of attention.
The Vietnamese official also suggested that the Cuban Ministry move to support Vietnam in training relating to the military and its national defence legal system.
The two sides affirmed that moving forward, they will seek to step up ties through delegation exchanges, training, and experience sharing in building legal systems, as well as providing each other with information and documents that both parties need.
Within the framework of the visit, the Vietnamese delegation laid wreaths at the monuments of Cuban national hero José Martí and President Ho Chi Minh; visited the National Defense College of Cuba, the Cuban Western Army, the Vietnamese Embassy, and the Vietnam Defense Attache Office in Cuba; and met with overseas Vietnamese military students.
Representatives of the Legal Affairs Department under the Ministry of National Defence also worked alongside their Cuban counterparts as part of the occasion.
