Cuba greatly values all-around ties with Vietnam

VOV.VN - Cuba always values and wishes to further deepen the special traditional relations and comprehensive cooperation with Vietnam, serving as an exemplary relationship in the world, said Politburo member and President of the National Assembly (NA) of People's Power of Cuba Esteban Lazo Hernandez at a meeting with President Vo Van Thuong in Hanoi on September 25.

At the meeting,  President Thuong welcomed the visit by the Cuban guest as saying that it is of great significance on the occasion of both countries commemorating the event of Leader Fidel Castro's visit to the Liberation Zone 50 years ago, thereby contributing to further deepening the special friendship and solidarity that exists between Vietnam and Cuba.

This is a special occasion for both nations as they review the tradition of co-operation and reminisce on the sentiments of Fidel Castro, the State, and people of Cuba for the Vietnamese people's struggle for national liberation, construction, and development, the Vietnamese State leader told his guest.

The nation has consistently supported Cuban national construction and development being ready to share difficulties and challenges caused by sanctions, natural disasters, and the COVID-19 pandemic with the Caribbean nation, he said. He added that at many global and regional forums, the nation has always conveyed messages calling for the end of the blockade against Cuba.

President Thuong suggested that both nations continue working closely together in order to make the bilateral comprehensive co-operation increasingly practical through the effective implementation of high-level agreements and existing co-operation mechanisms. This will therefore bring into full play the positive results of dialogue and co-operation mechanisms whilst promoting parliamentary diplomacy and people-to-people exchanges.

Congratulating Cuba on the successfully hosting of the G77+China Summit with the Havana Declaration, which demonstrates positive Cuban contributions to global issues and its growing position in the international arena.

The nation stays ready to make the utmost efforts to support and collaborate alongside Cuba. In line with this, President Thuong agreed with NA President Hernandez’s proposals to encourage Vietnamese businesses to invest in the Caribbean state and to boost two-way trade as a means of creating favourable conditions for goods of the two nations to access each other's markets.

The top Cuban legislator said that after four visits to Vietnam, he was delighted to see that the nation has recorded very important and great achievements. He therefore extended greetings and regards from General Raúl Castro Ruz and First Secretary, President of Cuba Miguel Díaz - Canel to President Thuong.

NA President Hernandez thanked the Party, State, and people of Vietnam for their solidarity and practical support for the cause of the Cuban Revolution during the process of national protection, defence, and development from past to present. This can especially be seen in the current difficult times through visits, encouragement, and spiritual and material support.

The Cuban official briefed President Thuong on the recent situation in Cuba with the difficulties being overcome, along with policies and solutions that the Cuban Party and State are implementing to improve people's living conditions. He also noted some directions which seek to build and improve the socio-economic situation in the coming time.

He went on to express his desire to see the Vietnamese side continue accompanying and sharing experience and lessons learned from its renewal process with the Cuban people.

The Cuban side hopes to learn from Vietnamese experiences in organising and managing small-sized enterprises, whilst it also looks forward to Vietnamese firms investing more strongly in Cuba in the near future, he said.

Earlier, NA President Hernandez and his delegation paid floral tribute to President Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum.

It is very rare to find such special relations as the ties between the Parties, States, and people of Vietnam and Cuba, set up by Cuban national hero Jose Marti, President Ho Chi Minh, and President Fidel Castro and nurtured by generations of leaders of both countries.
