Cuba celebrates Vietnam’s National Day

VOV.VN - The 79th anniversary of Vietnam’s National Day (1945-2024) was celebrated on August 29 by the Vietnamese Embassy in Cuba.

Those in attendance included Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Cuba Álvaro López Miera, member of the Communist Party of Cuba’s Politburo; Vice President of the National Assembly (NA) of the People’s Power Ana María Mari Machado, member of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee; and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Carlos Fernández de Cossío; among others.

In his speech at the celebration, Vietnamese Ambassador Le Quang Long highlighted the historic significance of September 2, 1945, when President Ho Chi Minh declared the nation’s independence, giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now known as the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

He hailed the tremendous achievements recorded by the Vietnamese people over the past 79 years in building, defending, and developing the country under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam. Growing from a poor and backward nation, Vietnam has since emerged as a dynamic economy, with an average GDP growth rate of around 6% per year over the past decade.

Vietnam has also become a reliable partner and a responsible member of the international community. It has since established diplomatic ties  with 193 nations around the world and has proactively participated in global multilateral organisations and forums such as the UN, ASEAN, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, and the World Trade Organisation (WTO).

The diplomat also affirmed that the special friendship and comprehensive co-operation that exists between Vietnam and Cuba has become a symbol of international solidarity and friendship.

He called on Cuban, international friends, and the international community to step up ties to contribute to the development of the countries and the progress of the international community.

At the event, participants gained a better understanding regarding Vietnamese history, culture, and beauty through watching documentaries and enjoying its traditional dishes.
