Cuba announces official mourning for former Vietnamese President
VOV.VN - Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel on May 22 announced an official mourning period from 6:00 a.m. on May 24 to midnight on May 25 (local time) in honor of former President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Tran Duc Luong.

President Diaz-Canel expressed deep sorrow on behalf of the Cuban people upon learning of the passing of comrade Tran Duc Luong. He emphasized that during his distinguished leadership, Tran Duc Luong made great contributions to Vietnam’s renewal process and to the special, trusted friendship between the peoples, Parties, and governments of Cuba and Vietnam.
During the mourning period, Cuba’s national flag will be flown at half-mast at public buildings and military institutions.
Earlier, First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba and President Diaz-Canel conveyed heartfelt condolences to the Party, State, and people of Vietnam over the passing of a prominent leader who played a pivotal role in strengthening the ties of friendship between the two nations.
Posting on social media platform X, President Diaz-Canel wrote, “We are deeply saddened by the passing of comrade Tran Duc Luong, former President of Vietnam, who made important contributions to consolidating the traditional brotherhood and cooperation between our two countries. I extend my sincerest condolences to the Party, Government, and the brotherly people of Vietnam.”
Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez also extended his sympathies to Vietnam’s leaders and people, as well as to the family of former President Tran Duc Luong, while affirming the deep solidarity between the two nations.
