Chairwoman of Hanoi’s People's Council Ngo Thi Doan Thanh received the highest number of high confidence votes (91.58 percent) in the first attempt to publicly assess the work of top officials in the capital, according to results announced by the council on July 4.

The voting on 18 positions elected by the municipal People’s Council was carried out by the 93 deputies at the Council. Similar events were held across the country over the past few days in accordance with a resolution issued by the National Assembly Standing Committee.

For the Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee, Nguyen The Thao, 62.1 percent of the votes were high confidence while 9.5 percent marked as low.

Nguyen Duc Chung, director of Hanoi police department, scored 72 percent high-confidence votes in the voting. Only two percent of the votes showed low-confidence for him.

The highest proportion of low confidence votes (24.21 percent) was recorded for Nguyen Dinh Duc, member of the municipal People’s Committee and director of the Committee's Department of Labours, Invalids and Social Affairs.

Director of the Department of Planning and Investment Ngo Van Quy also received 23.16 percent in low confidence votes.

Thanh said the voting procedure was in accordance with a National Assembly resolution issued by the NA Standing Committee.

She added that the results demonstrated the thorough preparation of organisations and individuals, and mirrored the capacity and responsibilities of leaders.

Thanh said the measure is to help State officials realise their capacity, encouraging them to fix their shortcomings and perform their work better.
