Colombia values ties with Vietnam
(VOV) - Colombia considers Vietnam an important partner in Asia, and wants to strengthen all-round cooperation with the Southeast Asian nation.
Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos made the statement at a reception for newly appointed Vietnamese Ambassador to Columbia Ngo Tien Dung on March 21.
He expressed his admiration for the Vietnamese people’s past undaunted struggle for national independence and their industriousness in the current construction and development period.
He said he would visit Vietnam one day to learn about the country’s experience in developing a socialist-oriented market economy and how it beat Colombia to become the world’s leading coffee exporter.

He conveyed his kind regards to Vietnamese leaders and pledged to create the best possible conditions for the ambassador to fulfill his tasks in Colombia.
For his part, Ambassador Dung noted with satisfaction the fine development of bilateral relations in recent times and spoke highly of Colombia’s decision to open an embassy in Hanoi in January 2013.
He conveyed President Truong Tan Sang’s high regards and invitation to visit Vietnam to President Santos. He said the government and people of Vietnam recognize the ever-increasing prestige of Colombia in the region and the world and want to strengthen multifaceted cooperation with Colombia for mutual benefit.
He vowed to do his utmost during his office term to promote bilateral ties, especially in 2014 as the two countries celebrate the 35th anniversary of diplomatic ties.
