Chinese public holds high expectations on Vietnam-China co-operation

VOV.VN - Chinese experts and businesses expect that the visit to Vietnam by General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and President of China Xi Jinping will promote broader cooperation between the two nations.

As a veteran expert with many years of research on ASEAN, Xu Ningning, executive president of the China-ASEAN Business Council and chairman of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) Industry Cooperation Committee, expressed great appreciation for the important Vietnamese role in ASEAN, as well as ties between the  regional bloc and China.

According to him, Vietnam has effectively promoted the advantages of its geographical location, highly complementary economy, and special relationship of "both comrades and brothers" in co-operation with China.

As an emerging country, Vietnam has made good use of the China-ASEAN Free Trade Agreement, while actively carrying out policies aimed at promoting free trade as a mean of signing many FTAs with foreign countries in the regional bloc.

The country also regularly launches regional connectivity initiatives and contributes to stepping up intra-bloc linkages.

Ningning said that, facing changes and fierce challenges in terms of the current international political and economic situation, both sides need to more clearly define co-operation goals, as well as work to ramp up specific and substantial ties.

The Vietnam visit by President Xi is viewed as a good opportunity for the two sides to discuss this issue, he added.

“There is no doubt that the top Chinese leader's visit to Vietnam represents a milestone in consolidating and developing relations between the two countries. This is not only an activity of great interest to the two Parties, two countries and the two peoples, but also a major diplomatic event in regional cooperation, even international relations.

We expect the two sides will deepen the consensus between both nations’ leaders on strategic, overall and fundamental issues. I believe that the leaders will make correct judgments on these issues and relevant agencies will actively implement the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries," he emphasized.

Ningning said that ahead in 2024, the theme of collaboration between China and ASEAN will be people-to-people exchanges, with a view to strengthening friendship, understanding, and cultural connection among people of both sides.

Therefore, he hopes that people-to-people exchanges between the Vietnamese side and China will also be enhance, particularly as this is the foundation for building ties between the two sides, while also contributing to the overall development of political and economic relations between two countries.

Beijing Yun Tian Liangpin Technology Development Co., Ltd. is one of the enterprises importing the most Vietnamese fruits at the Xinfadi wholesale market. Among more than 30 fruit products the company imports, roughly 10 are from the Vietnamese market. Liu Yuntian, president of the company's board of directors, said she hopes that the visit of the top Chinese leader will continue to promote trade exchange in the field of agricultural products between the two sides.

“We hope that President Xi Jinping's Vietnam visit will further boost the two-way trade logistics we are doing now more smoothly, giving us greater motivation to make international trade between the two sides better, more connected and mutually beneficial," she stressed.

As someone who understands the nutritional value of durian fruit, Tan Bencheng, director of Peng Zu Nutrition Research Institute based in Shanghai, is especially impressed with the results of importing the “king” fruit from the Vietnamese market.

He highlighted the great Chinese demand that exists for durian and showed his belief that the visit to Vietnam by President Xi will further bolster agricultural co-operation between the two countries.

“I look forward to President Xi Jinping's visit to Vietnam. I think that after this visit, close trade and agricultural cooperation between China and Vietnam will be further enhanced. Hopefully cooperation between the two sides in this field will be significantly improved and bilateral ties will develop in a positive direction," he went on to say.

This is President Xi’s third visit to Vietnam as Party General Secretary and President of China.

Most notably, this is the first time a Party General Secretary and President of China has visited Vietnam three times since the two countries normalized relations.

The Chinese media commented that this visit will open up a new period and usher in fresh prospects to grow relations between the two Parties and the two nations.
