Chinese expert hails strong momentum in Vietnam-China relations

VOV.VN - Vietnam-China ties are maintaining strong, comprehensive momentum, reaching an “unprecedented level” and entering a new phase of development with broad prospects for deeper cooperation, according to Professor Wang Yong, Director of the Center for International Political Economy Studies at Peking University.

Professor Wang noted that since early 2025, Vietnam and China have launched a broad range of activities to mark the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. These have included high-level visits and extensive exchanges and cooperation among ministries, agencies and localities of both sides.

He said the high frequency of contacts at multiple levels demonstrates strong momentum in bilateral ties and underscores the broadly positive assessment of the relationship.

A key highlight in Vietnam-China relations in recent years has been the sharp increase in people-to-people exchanges, Wang said. Cultural exchanges, economic cooperation, and links among business communities, local authorities, and educational and research institutions have become “increasingly frequent and substantive.”

According to the professor, close bonds between the peoples of the two countries, likened to those of close neighbors, form an important socio-cultural foundation for the stable and sustainable development of bilateral relations.

On economic cooperation, Wang said Vietnam and China are highly complementary in trade and investment structures, creating favorable conditions for continued growth in economic and commercial exchanges. He added that cooperation potential remains substantial in areas such as infrastructure, education, culture, science and technology, and research and development, in line with regional economic integration trends and the development needs of both countries.

Assessing Vietnam’s foreign policy, Wang spoke highly of the country’s balanced and flexible approach in managing relations with major partners amid an increasingly complex international environment.

He said this policy has helped enhance Vietnam’s international standing, while creating favorable conditions for attracting investment, expanding exports and advancing international economic integration.

At the same time, Vietnam’s role as a regional “bridge” has continued to strengthen, providing effective support for the country’s development and modernization drive, he said.

Looking ahead, Wang said Vietnam-China relations are entering what he described as a “golden phase,” with vast potential for future cooperation. He projected that the two sides will maintain high-level exchanges, expand cooperation in infrastructure, energy, innovation, and science and technology, while further strengthening people-to-people exchanges and cooperation between localities in the period ahead.
