Chinese army official visits Vietnam

Lieut. Gen. Phan Van Giang, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, received a high-level Chinese army official on November 25.

Meeting in Hanoi with Chinese People's Liberation Army Maj. Gen. Kan Li Kui, Deputy Chief of the Operations Department under the General Staff Department, Lieut. Gen. Giang was briefed on the outcome of the meeting between the Chinese General Staff Department's border guard delegation and the Vietnamese Border Guard High Command.

Both military leaders highly praised the coordination between the two countries' border guard forces along their shared border.

They also agreed to share their knowledge in training border guards, conduct more joint patrols, exchange information at border posts and organise exchanges for young officers.

On same day, Lieut. Gen. Giang met with Col. Barz Reinhard, Head of the United Nations Training Centre of the German Armed Forces.

Col. Reinhard explained the centre's operations, noting that it trains about 20,000 people every year for the army, police and other sectors.

In reply, Giang voiced his hope that the centre will help Vietnam successfully fulfill its responsibilities when its soldiers join UN peacekeeping missions.
