During the course of talks, Lieutenant General Le Duc Thai, commander of the Vietnam Border Guard High Command, said co-operation in national defence and security has affirmed its role as an important pillar of mutual relations, thereby contributing to enhancing and deepening the bilateral comprehensive strategic co-operative partnership that exists between the two.

Reviewing co-operation, Thai said that up to 286 border exchange programmes, meetings and talks between relevant units have been launched so far this year with the participation of 1,682 officials.

Both sides have also worked closely to crime combat; conduct joint patrols; co-ordinate in border gate management; and play a role in strengthening solidarity, friendship, and mutual trust and understanding that exists between border authorities and residents of the two countries.

According to the officer, competent Vietnamese forces have worked along the Chinese side to handle a total of 518 cases of illegal immigration involving 4,436 people in the year to date.

They should further exchange relevant information, especially relating to the fight against transnational and high-tech crimes, terrorists, separatists, reactionaries, and drug crimes.

LT Gen. Thai also proposed the establishment of a hotline for crime prevention and control, administrative reform, the building of smart border gates to facilitate more trade between the two countries, the enhancement of exchanges at all levels, and the maintenance of twinning models.
