Cambodia’s National Day marked in Hanoi

The Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations and the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association co-organized a meeting in Hanoi on November 6 to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Cambodia’s National Day (November 11).

In his speech, the association’s President Vu Mao praised the socio-economic achievements gained by the Cambodian people over the years.

He stressed that Vietnam and Cambodia have enjoyed their time-honoured friendship and cooperation through the regular exchange of visits by high-ranking officials of the two countries.

Last year, their two-way trade rose 18 percent to US$3.3 billion, Mao said, adding that Vietnam now ranks second among 140 countries and territories trading with Cambodia.

The two countries have also paid due attention to boosting cooperation in the fields of education and training, energy, healthcare and transport.

Cambodian Ambassador Hul Phanny recalled the three Indochinese countries’ history of struggle for national independence, saying Vietnam’s supported Cambodia in overthrowing the Pol Pot genocidal regime and rebuilding the country.
